Version 2.1 enters beta

I am happy to announce that the beta version of WordPoints version 2.1.0 is now available. To test it out for yourself, you can install the Beta Tester module.

This version of WordPoints has been in development for many months, and I’ve been working on some of the underlying code for over a year. This was way longer than I had originally anticipated this update taking, but now I’m just glad that it’s finally almost done!

So what is in this new version of WordPoints? The biggest changes are in the code that is behind the “points hooks”. This code has been completely rebuilt to make it easier to extend in the future. This will provide a foundation for building more WordPoints features, both in the core plugin and in modules and extensions.

Which brings us to the next good news: while I am finishing up the work on WordPoints 2.1 over the next few weeks, I will also be working on the start of a module to integrate with BuddyPress. This is something that many have requested, and it is the first module that I plan to release after this new version of WordPoints is out.

Many more modules will hopefully follow thereafter, as well as the many other features that people have requested.

Thank you to all of you who have patiently waited while this work is underway! I think that WordPoints has a very bright future just around the corner. I can’t wait!
