Update on Version 2.0

WordPoints version 2.0 has been under development for a longer time than usual. The last update, 1.10.0, was released at the end of February. I chose to schedule the release of 2.0.0 at the end of June, because I wanted to have plenty of time to develop some of the features. That’s four months, and previous releases have been every 1-2 months.

During this time, a lot of work has been done on WordPoints. Most of this work has been behind the scenes, in the plugin’s code. That probably doesn’t sound very exciting, but it really is. Because all of these code improvements will help to make integrating WordPoints with other plugins easier. It has also fixed quite a few little bugs, too.

Also, during this time I’ve done a lot of work on other things relating to WordPoints. The website has received a complete makeover. I’ve also released several new modules. In addition, I’m working on rewriting the code behind the points hooks. While this change probably won’t be part of 2.0.0, it might be part of 2.1.0. What this will do, is allow points hooks to be literally 100 times more customizable. It will also make it even easier to integrate WordPoints with other plugins. And it will lay the foundation for the addition of a new Badges component in the near future.

So, WordPoints 2.0.0 is still being developed, and will still be released on June 30. It isn’t going to be an earth-shattering release. Think of it more like the tremor before an eruption of new modules.
