Introducing the BuddyPress module (and others)

After much work and much anticipation, one of our most requested modules is finally here! Actually, I have three modules to announce, but let’s start with:

BuddyPress #

Many of you have been patiently waiting for this, and the first release is now ready. It integrates WordPoints with BuddyPress by adding a Points tab to member profiles where they can view their points info, and introducing many events that can be used to award points for things that happen on the social network—like posting activity, joining groups, etc. A full list of features is too long to include here, you can check out the complete run-down on the module’s homepage. (If you don’t see a feature that you need, let us know, and we’ll try to get it in the next version.)

I’ve worked to get this out as soon as possible, and it is actually a bit ahead of itself. Some of the features required changes in WordPoints and/or BuddyPress, and those changes have not all been released yet. A lot of the events will only be enabled once BuddyPress 2.8.0 and/or WordPoints 2.3.0 are released. (These events are marked in the module’s description.) BuddyPress 2.8.0 is scheduled to drop on January 25, while I haven’t yet decided when WordPoints 2.3.0 will be released. But due to the current state of things, that will probably be sooner rather than later (i.e., February/March).

Because of this, and since this module is new and might still have some kinks that need to be worked out, I’m offering everyone who purchases a license before March 1 50% off. Just enter the code BP50 at checkout.

wpDataTables #

The wpDataTables plugin makes it possible to beautifully display charts and tables on your site. One of its features is that you can use it to create custom tables in the database that users can submit data to through the front end of the site. A few months ago, I was hired to create a WordPoints module integrating with wpDataTables, to award points to users for submitting data. That module is now also available for purchase here on WordPoints.org.

All Types Total #

Over time I’ve had several requests for a way to display the total points of a user, of all types added together. This doesn’t make sense for some sites, since each points type can represent something completely different, but on other sites each points type represents something similar, and so it makes sense to be able to display the total. So I created the All Types Total module, and just recently added here it on WordPoints.org. It just provides a shortcode to display a user’s total points. And it is absolutely free.

Next #

Now we’re on to creating the next modules and WordPoints features. What would you like to see next? Let us know in the comments or on our feature requests board on Trello.
